Altec needed to migrate 2.9TB of Enterprise Business Suite (E-Business Suite) data from a third-party-managed Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) tenancy into its own self-managed OCI tenancy hosting Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) — and keep that data flowing in real time once the initial load was complete. Altec partnered with RheoData to design an Oracle GoldenGate Service (GGS) architecture that could move massive volumes of data quickly between tenancies while enabling continuous change data capture for downstream analytics.
RheoData and Altec coordinated across both OCI tenancies to establish secure Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) connections, allowing Oracle GoldenGate Service to reach the source E-Business Suite database running on Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS) and the target Autonomous Data Warehouse. RheoData architected a single GGS deployment sized at 16 OCPUs with 3TB of storage — roughly 187 GB per OCPU — calibrated specifically for the volume of data in motion and the continuous change data capture (CDC) workload that would follow. The team built a parallel replication strategy using two trail file formats: EXTTrail files for the high-speed bulk dump of source tables during the initial load, and standard trail files for ongoing CDC into ADW. This dual-format approach kept data movement simple while scaling extracts and replicats independently, allowing throughput of 20,000 to 40,000 rows per minute. RheoData also leveraged the microservices architecture of Oracle GoldenGate Service to develop reusable RESTful API scripts, giving Altec the flexibility to reload data, run single-table loads, and reset environments on demand — without rebuilding the pipeline each time.
Altec compressed its initial 2.9TB data load from two weeks down to between 10 and 14 hours — a 95% to 97% return on time compared to their original proof-of-concept. With real-time replication running continuously into Autonomous Data Warehouse, Altec gained the ability to clone, reset, and refresh development environments within a single business day, freeing critical data and engineering resources to focus on higher-value organizational goals and keeping their broader cloud transformation timeline firmly on track.
